The Walking Dead Monday

Hey guys!

So I am about to owe all of you that liked how I did this last year an apology.

I have made a decision and it wasn't until about an hour before the premiere of The Walking Dead to NOT do The Walking Dead Monday's with the synopsis. This particular blog takes well over 2 and half hours to write out and edit and I just don't have that time this year. Last years TWD was so draining and so much happened that I didn't really get to enjoy the show cause I was consistently writing it out. I really do enjoy The Walking Dead Monday's so instead of writing each week out, I am just going to do bullet points on each week. The main things that happen. How I feel about each week. Where I think it might go and thoughts.

So again I do apologize if you liked how last year was. This year will just be different so I hope you still continue to come read.

So let's get to it.

Reviewing: TWD: Season 8: Episode 1: Mercy

SPOILERS AHEAD. Some of the bullet points might give things away so please STOP reading if you don't want to know anything.

  • Tonight's episode is the 100th episode.
  • It also marks the beginning of the All Out War from the comics.
  • The note that Dwight finds attached to the arrow that says Tomorrow from Daryl and then shoots it back to him was so cool to watch. How they are together now. And how Dwight writes back about all the lookout people so Daryl and crew can kill them.
  • The scene where it is just Carl walking by himself is just like the very first episode ever of TWD with Rick after he wakes from his coma. How he places his hat on the ground to look under the car for the guy talking to find out where he is, is just like Rick did but with the child zombie.
  • Maggie as a leader is the best ever. I just adore her and it's so smartly played on their part after all she's been through.
  • What's up with a grey headed, long bearded Rick with a cane? Any ideas on that? A dream maybe. A wish. Something he's just picturing that he wants or a premonition maybe?
  • I hate Negan so much that I love him. Jeffery Dean Morgan does such a good job at this role.
  • Gregory is such a snake and when Jesus says that Hilltop stands with Maggie, I literally said "Hell yeah they do" out loud. Then Gabriel tries to save him and Gregory takes his car and leaves him at Negan's place. UGH! Such a dick move and I hope Rick or Maggie kills him for that. When Gabriel does make it to safety, he ends up in the same place as Negan.
  • Daryl, Carol, Tara and Morgan as a Fantastic 4 was great to watch. All their little things that lead up to getting Negan's lieutenants killed and all those walkers to follow Daryl to Negan's hideout was just brilliant to watch.
  • Negan's whole place gets run down by so many walkers that I have no idea how any of them survived. Oh...I'm sure a few do of course but those who didn't know what was happened I am sure are dead.

Things I thought along the way:
  • I understand they had a plan. But Rick said only one person has to die and that person is Negan. Why when Negan first walked out, did Rick not take his shot? I know they were waiting on the zombies but seriously! You had multiple clean shots that you didn't take. And what was up with the Polaroid right before he left.
  • Daryl sure was driving really fast and blowing stuff up yet the zombies sure did keep up with him. Did anyone else find that odd?
  • Judith is older yet Maggie doesn't look a day pregnant.
  • Who is the guy Carl gave food to?
  • Have they not noticed Gabriel didn't make it back? He told Daryl it was Gabriel who got him out of there, why isn't he looking for his friend to thank him!

Where does it go now?
  • I honestly have no idea where I think it's going. I know they won't kill Negan that quick. He is the #1 villain ever and to just kill him wouldn't work. I know what happens to him in the comics so we will see if that plays out.
  • What happens to Gabriel who is stuck with Negan and Lucille. I assume Negan has Lucille and I was almost sure he was going to use it on Gabriel (cause he asked him if he had his sh*tting pants on) but he didn't (as of last night).
  • And what is the Old Man Rick scenes about? I still can't figure that out.

Feel free to leave your comments, thoughts or ideas on this episode or where you think it might go. Again, I apologize if you were looking for a play by play of last night's episode.
See you next week!

Five on Friday

one. Woody
How cute is he? He is ready for Halloween. I got him a stuffed Bullseye but I didn't give it to him yet because he will never put it down so I am waiting till the night of.

two. Best Friends Halloween
Today, Lina had a fun Halloween party for the kids. Lots of candy, pizza and cupcakes. How cute are all of them? Miguel as a Fireman, Brody is Woody, Isabel is Minnie, Patricio is Superman and a Zelda is a Dinosaur.

three. The Walking Dead, season 8
It's back! Tune in to your local AMC Sunday night at 8pm (central). This marks the 100th episode and the beginning of the All Out War arc from the comics. My Walking Dead Monday's are back as well so stay tuned! I'm excited.

These I am excited about. They are called Perfect Size for 1 and they are cakes, muffins and brownies that you mix with milk or water, and heat in a mug in the microwave for 4 minutes. And out pops a delicious ready to eat treat. It taste amazing and I don't have to waste. Which I do on many occasions. Plus it limits me from over eating sweets. They have SO many options (18 to be exact) to chose from.

They have their candles for $12.50 right now plus 25% off which makes them $9.38 a piece. Use code COZYUP25 for discount. They just released some Christmas scents which has me all ready for cool temps.

Testament

Dear Diary,

Last week I told you about going vegan and I also told you a story about my friends dad. What my friend did for me was well beyond what I could have imagined. She interviewed her dad about his cancer and going vegan and sent that to me.

She said I could use names so her name is Elizabeth Plimmer and her dad is Richard. The interview is about 10 minutes long so I have just used the parts of the interview that relate to the cancer and going vegan and what he feels it has done for himself. Here is a dialogue.

Elizabeth: When you first found out you had cancer what was your first thing that you wanted change and what steps did you want to take?
Richard: I just knew I needed to stop sugar. I thought, well we went to the moon 50 years ago, this is only cancer. I knew I could beat it with food.

E: You said you wanted to cut out sugar, but what made you want to cut out meat and stuff like that?
R: I guess I always wanted to but I was sick enough to actually do it now.

E: Do you think by doing that, that made a huge impacted on your recovery process?
R: That is exactly what did it.

E: And besides the food for the cancer, what has the food done to your body besides ridden the cancer?
R: I have never felt better. I have no aches and pains. I noticed that when my wife would ask me if I could get her purse and I would reach in the back seat, I would think "Oh I need to work on my shoulder" and now that pain is gone. I had back pains, leg pains, shoulder pains and now I have no pain.

E: Do you think you will continue to do the program? Or how do you feel. I know the word Vegan isn't something you like to use. But what is your approach to your diet post-cancer?
R: If it has a label on it and I have to figure what's in it, I am not eating it. I eat fresh foods, I am going to juice everyday and I will continue to have no pain. And I found the best way is to eat right because we are what we eat.

E: If you someone came to you that didn't have cancer or a serious illness, what would be your approach to them?
R: I can't decide that for you but I will share information with you. There are all types of videos and information and I did everything anything that anyone suggested that had good success and if it worked I continued and if it didn't I stopped.

E: When you were diagnosed with your cancer, you were scheduled to have 8 chemo treatments but at the end, you left with 5. Do you think the food played a big part in keeping you healthy and not feeling ill or weak?
R: By all means. I had no side effects or evil things happen to me after chemo. Except for hair loss. And there were no side effects. After 3 or 4 chemo's I was starting to feel full of chemicals and got tired. I just had to make friends with it and take lots of nap. I try not to eat after the sun goes down. That's the time my body needs to rest and it can't rest if its digesting a piece of meat.

E: Are you against meat or just have changed the way you approach the products?
R: I love meat. I love corn beef sandwiches. I just won't have one. Not that I won't ever have one but I've learned that if I want to live long, feel better and not take medications, that I am going to eat correctly.

I can't thank both Elizabeth and Richard enough for this. After I heard this, it was just the cherry on top of our decision. It's one thing to hear stories, but for it to happen to someone you know, it just hits close and makes you think.

Deal of the Day

Today's deal of the day goes to Payless Shoe Source. And you might be thinking...Payless? Really? Almost all of my boots last winter came from Payless and I got more compliments on them than my expensive ones. Plus their prices are already so good. Today's deal is their BOGO 50% off (buy one get one for 50% off). This is what I did last year with my boots and got 4 pairs for around $60! Plus they have an additional 15% off with code ZZBOGO15. The BOGO works on all shoes for the family so stock up for winter. Brody goes through shoes so fast so I don't mind buying him these since the prices are so good and the shoes are good quality and cute too. I already have my shopping cart full so if you'll excuse me......

Preschool

Someone started preschool today!
Bobby and I have been talking about putting Brody in a preschool at a church for a while now but nothing was ever open. Finding a mothers day out program in Mansfield was proving to be harder than anything. Well not finding a place, but finding an opening I mean. So we figured out where we wanted him to go and put him on the wait list. He was number 15 for the Tuesday/Thursday class and I was for sure thinking he wouldn't make it even though the lady told me that she was sure he would be in by Christmas. Well she wasn't wrong and here we are. He will be going 9-12 and I will pick him up before nap time. I have no desire for him to nap there. He is a 3 hour napper at home and if he even remotely sleeps a little at school, he won't go back down for me here and it would be a nightmare from hell the rest of the day. So he will get all the education he needs in the those 3 hours, eat lunch and then come home.
I am so excited for him and for me haha. I get 3 hours, 2 days a week to myself to get stuff done. Like grocery shop without sticky fingers and my phone being covered in dum-dum's. This is a good thing for me and for him. He had a fantastic first day his teacher said and I can tell she already loves him which is a blessing. I am excited to see my already smart kiddo learn even more!

Angie

Happy Birthday to my sister in law, Angie!

Girl....you are something else. You are so incredibly special to me because a) you liked me first when Bobby brought me home to meet everyone and b) you never judge or criticize anyone. You have one of the most open minded minds I have ever known. You are down for anything and I always know I have a wine buddy. Your a fabulous teacher because of all the accomplishments you have received. And to top it off, you are a wonderful wife, a fantastic mother and your beautiful inside and out. There is no one in the world like you and I am so blessed to have you as my sister in law.

Angie,
I just adore everything about you and love you so very much. I hope you have a wonderful day and Happy birthday!

Five on Friday

one. Friday the 13th
There is just something about this day. It's spooky and I am super cautious on this day. I kinda wanna watch scary movies all day and eat junk food. Anyone with me?

A couple years ago, Jimmy Fallon put out a book called Dada and it was a book I just had to get Brody. Bobby read it to him every night. This week, Jimmy released his newest book about Mama and y'all....it's super cute. We have read it more times than I can count and he loves the animals and objects in this book.

three. The Big Three
This week Landry was out of school on Tuesday so she, her brother Hayden and my sister came to the zoo with us. We had a blast. Brody loves them, especially Landry who we call Lou. Every time she would get away from him, he would scream LOU LOU LOU till she came running back to him. I love that the three of them have a great relationship. They each bring something so different to the table and I am super blessed by them.

four. Aunt Kiki
Speaking of my sister, I am blessed to have her. She loves her Brody and is always helping me with him (when Landry isn't). She has raised such amazing children and I LOVE this picture of her and Brody. I just adore you sis!

five. David and Jasmine
They got to come in this weekend and we were super excited that they wanted to stay a night with us. Brody was in heaven with Jasmine. Lord he loves her and David...but mostly her. He used every trick he had to keep her attention. He was so upset when they left and cried at the window. I can't wait till they are home for good!

Vegetarian/Vegan Part 2

Dear Diary,

So on Tuesday, I spoke about becoming vegetarian/vegan but I didn't really give a reason why. Well here it is.

Over the past couple of months it is something I have been thinking about. I have never been a really big meat lover (besides cow, pig and sushi) and even the ones I did like, I was extremely picky on them. Then I had a friend who went vegan but never really promoted it. Something in her Instastory feed caught my attention so I questioned her on it. She told me her dad was diagnosed with stage 2 lymphoma (a blood cancer) and he changed the way he ate (by going vegan). When he was originally diagnosed, he was supposed to have 8 chemo treatments. He ended up only having to have 5. He believes the reason is because of his diet change. So her diet changed. She does the 80/20 rule where is she eats 80% vegan and the other 20% is for cravings/out with friends/ etc.

So after I heard all of this, Bobby saw a documentary on Netflix called What The Health. We randomly chose to watch it that evening. That is what sealed the deal for me. I never in my life thought my husband would be on board with me. He ate chicken/meat with almost every meal. But after seeing this documentary, it changed the way he felt. This documentary shines a light on where we get our meat from and how it is processed. It is extremely disturbing and made me feel so sick. It talks about diary and eggs as well. It also has interviews with doctors, scientist, real life people about how vegan has changed their way of life and the side effects from certain things. It talks about diabetes and obesity. It talks about how food is processed in the body and what goes where. It is seriously mind blowing!
There are a few things the film does talk about that I didn't quite agree with if I am being honest. One of them was about eggs and cigarettes but you have to use your own judgment and do your own research. Like this article right here

But how can watching a one sided documentary make you do this?

Because I have wanted to do this for a while now, a really long time if I am being truly honest with myself. I just never knew the facts. I never took the time to research where my food came from and it wasn't until the documentary that I started looking into it.

I wanna give you some quick facts about myself (and Bobby) that I have noticed in the past 2 and 1/2 weeks:
-I had constant elbow pain from CrossFit and carrying Brody. I don't have it anymore.
-I feel stronger at the gym now and I have noticed I am breathing better when I work out.
-I have Hashimoto's Disease (a thyroid condition) which normally makes me feel extremely tired and run down. I don't anymore. I do still take my morning pill to help control it, but I have noticed a change in the way I feel in these last weeks.
-My skin was breaking out everywhere. Including my neck and back. It's gone.
-I have lost 5 pounds because instead of focusing on protein so much, I am focusing on fiber.
-I have never felt more aware of what I eat. I haven't had fast food and haven't craved it either.
-Bobby is stronger. He hit a PR for dumbbell lifts the other day. Now he might tell you he isn't sure if its the diet or not, but I find it very odd that after he stops eating meat, he is able to workout better and stronger.
-Bobby has always had a gas problem (he would kill me for telling you that). He doesn't anymore. Now, he is a man and men fart but it isn't nearly as bad or frequent and that to me is a win.
-Every time he would go to the doctor, they would tell him he had high cholesterol. Which is super odd because he is seriously one the healthiest eaters (or so we thought). He goes back next week and I am so curious as to what they say. I will keep you updated on that.

I am not here to tell you to go vegan or vegetarian. I would never try to tell you what to do. I am only telling you what I know and the facts that I am seeing. A lot of people think I am doing this to save the animals and a part of me is. The way they are slaughtered, the way that they live is just disgusting but the main reason I did this was for myself. To try to make myself the best I can be. This doesn't mean I won't eat meat again, I told you that on Tuesday. This is just bringing awareness to where you get the meat from. What it does to your health. I am sure a lot of you won't agree with me and that is totally fine. What you do for yourself and your family is what you choose.

Even if you don't believe in this, even if you think it's a bunch of poop....watch the documentary. Educate yourself on where your grocery store meat comes from. Where your meat market meat comes from. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

I have only been doing this for a little over 2 weeks so I will keep you updated on us and this. If you notice a few changes to the blog (like my Five on Friday or what I promote) don't be surprised. I won't rub it in your face or tell you what to do. Pinkie Promise.

Love, Me

p.s. the interview I have is with my friends dad but it is so good and kinda long that I am saving that for next week.
p.s.s. WATCH WHAT THE HEALTH and make your own assessment.

Hayden

Happy 4th birthday to this very funny nephew of mine,
Hayden Timothy Smith.
What a delight you are Hayden. You are so incredibly funny. You make me laugh all the time I am with you. You love superheroes, you love to sing and you aren't afraid to tell it like it is. You have such a big heart for such a small age. You are so wonderful with Brody and I am so glad he has you to be friends with, to look up to.
I just adore you kiddo. You make me so very happy and I hope you have the best birthday! I love you!

Vegetarian/Vegan Part 1

So what is this news you ask.

A little over 2 weeks ago, Bobby and I went vegan. But not 100% vegan. We are actually more like vegetarians than vegan.

What is vegan you ask? Vegan is someone who chooses to eat no animals or animal by products. So no meat, no cheese, no dairy, no eggs, nothing that comes from an animal.

Vegetarians just eat no meat. They do eat eggs, dairy and cheese. This is why Bobby and I are considered more vegetarians because we chose to keep those 3 in our diet.

Why I also considered myself to be somewhat vegan is because we are eating more of a plant based diet. If there is a vegan option, we are choosing it. We eat vegan protein bars and vegan meat. When we grocery shop, we have the vegan mindset.

But Dani...you aren't true vegans and you would be correct. Here's the simplest way for me to put it for you: If there is a vegan option, we choose it. If there is not, our next step is vegetarian. If there is no vegetarian option, then we for go it and just eat.

But what do you do for protein? Y'ALL.....there is SOOO many options for protein that do not involve killing animals. Veggies, nuts, beans, hemp, nut butter, tofu, lentils, almond milk, quinoa, sprouted grain bread are just some examples of how to get protein that doesn't involve animal or animal by products.

Here's some guidelines to our rules.....
*If we are out with friends or family, and there is no vegan option, we will for go it that evening. We don't want to be rude to someone who has made us food nor feel like we can't go because we can't eat. That's no fun.
*When we are at home, we are super strict on what we make. Bobby only eats eggs for breakfast and I have cut my cheese intake by 80%.
*We drink almond milk (even Brody) but I will still drink regular milk if that's all there is.

I know you are asking yourself why we chose this. What happened that made us completely change everything about the way we eat.
And I am saving that answer for Thursday because I want to really talk about it and share an interview of a friends dad I got. So come on back Thursday and I will answer the rest of your questions and really break down our choice for you. Including the changes we have seen to our bodies and mind. And please feel free to ask me anything, I might just blog your question!

Boots

Dear Diary,

Today God gained a black and white kitty cat named Boots. I got Boots when I was 12 years old. My parents let me adopt both him and his sister (who we named Scoots but she passed many years ago). Boots has been through a lot, seen a lot, lived in 3 different homes, been through a handful of dogs and still kept on trucking. He was 19 and 1/2 years old when he passed this afternoon.

I am surprisingly not heartbroken about this. Sad, yes but not heartbroken. I think because I know where animals go, I knew he was in pain and he is now being reunited with his sister and that makes me not heartbroken. I haven't lived with him since getting married but that doesn't make the love less for him.

Boots,
You sure were a great companion all those years I lived at home with you. You always were down to snuggle and you had this weird love of pretzel sticks. I know you are not in pain anymore and for that I celebrate for you. Tell your sister hello for me! I love you.

Shop Small

Today's shop small is Swink Boutique

So you might recognize the name Swink because I work out at Swink Athletics. But this is a totally different part of Swink you might not have known about. You use to only be able to buy the items at Swink Color Bar (the hair salon, which I go to btw to get my hair done) but because of how fast they were selling out and how cute this stuff is, they have moved it online so you can purchase right at home! I was so stoked when I heard this since I only get my hair done twice a year. You can still go into the store and purchase as well and they have the option of in store pick-up which is super awesome, especially if you live close. I do know in the next couple of weeks they are releasing a few new items so I will do my best to remind you and show you!

I love this shop small. I love the people who own it. Support support support local businesses!

Moment of Silence

I had planned on telling you what I was going to tell you Thursday but I am taking a moment of silence today for the fallen victims of the Las Vegas Shooting. My heart is broken right now and I don't think me talking about me and being all cheerful is what I am about today.

Please take a moment of silence with me and send prayers to God to help heal this nation. Even if you don't believe in God, pray to whatever you do believe in. We need peace. We need kindness. We need to be helping and loving one another. Not taking each other lives. There are so many questions left unanswered and I hope in the days to come, the victims families get their answers.

Ellen always says "Be Kind to One Another" at the end of each show and I always say it with her because I highly believe in it. That's what I try to teach Brody everyday, to be kind. It goes a long way!

Five on Friday

One of the best purchases I made for Brody and I was a season pass to the Fort Worth zoo. I take him once a week and he just loves running around and seeing the animals. He cracks me up making all the animal sounds and gets so excited when they get close.

two. Honest
Honest has brought out a change in their cleaning supplies. You can now buy scents and these new scents are incredible. Coastal Surf, Lavender Field and Grapefruit Grove. They also have an unscented line and a new baby line. I am so excited for these.

three. National Coffee Day
Today is national coffee day but national coffee day is every day to me. If you had to pick just one way to have coffee...what would it be? For me, my Nespresso Machine and flavored creamer. As much as I love my PSL, I love my Nespresso machine. (and I love George....he just stays handsome no matter his age)

four. Batman
Brody saw this mask at Target and had to have it. Makes me laugh every time he wears it. He walks around the house saying Roar. He has no idea who Batman is yet, he just finds it fun.

The Emerald Sky sale ends today so don't miss out. FALL10 for 10% off one shirt (or SHOPDL for 15% off) and FALL25 for 25% off two or more shirts.

Sick Day

Dear Diary,

I had a really big blog planned today about something Bobby and I are doing but I have come down with a stomach bug so I am getting some rest today and don't have the time to go into it. I promise I will explain it next week. I am looking forward to telling you all about it, I just need my rest today (especially while Brody sleeps).

Thanks for understanding and come back tomorrow for my Five on Friday!

Deal of the Day

Today's deal goes to the store called Michael's. They are having 60% off all Halloween items today only. Some stuff is online and others are in store. There is no code needed. Prices will reflect in store or online shopping cart. Michael's already has great pricing so this is just icing, cool whip, sprinkles and a cherry on top!

Decorating my home is my favorite thing to do so I am stocking up on this stuff cause of how good the pricing is! You should too.

Fabletic's Shoes

So you all know I am a huge fan of Fabletics's clothes. I practically live them and I swear by them. Over the last week, they released shoes. They are more athletic style shoes and they are adorable. I bought 4! They are incredible. I am so excited about these.

Here's the deal, you must be a VIP Fabletics member to get these. Which is super easy to do. All you do is sign up. They charge $49.95 a month, which is the amount of one outfit, and you can skip any month you don't want to purchase anything. They will not charge you if you skip and you can skip as many months as you would like. You forget to skip? That money just goes into your account for the next time you shop so you would have a credit.

Let's get back to the shoes! I just wanna show you a few (my favs) so you get an idea. There are more on the website and some of these come in different colors.

They have around 11 or 12 different ones and I can't wait for them to bring more out! They start at $39.95 just fyi.
