I've been going ever since I was a little girl. And it never gets old. It becomes more crowded, but never gets old. If you have never been to the State Fair of Texas, I would recommend it. There is a lot to see and a lot to do and a lot to eat! So make sure you wear your walking shoes and bring money. It blows my mind how fast tickets go. One ticket is $.50 a piece but when you get to the counter and the lady says that wine is 10 tickets and you are left with only 10 more (since a sheet comes with 20 tickets) you really begin to see how the fair makes its money. But even through that, I love it. This year I went with my mom and dad, Tim, Kara, Landry and Hayden and Tim's parents, Mike and Debbie. My husband opted out this year. Mr. Model himself doesn't eat fried food and hates crowds. I got picked up at 9am and we got to the fair by 10am. I would recommend going that early. It's cooler, there are less people and you don't feel so crammed into one space. By 1pm, that place is hopping. And by 3pm, you need to form a train of holding hands to just get through all the people. Or if you can go on a weekday, that is better too!

 

No one in my group really ate anything new and since I can't eat it, I don't have much to show you. Tomorrow's blog will be how to go to the fair and eat Gluten Free though. I do have my list to share with you and I did buy 2 things on the list since I was there.

Ok, I am sorry but I liked the other Big Tex. If you didn't know, the Big Tex that I grew up with burned down 2 years ago and since I didn't go last year, this was my first year to see the new Big Tex. He is extremely creepy. I mean, they could have given him like a 5 o'clock shadow or something. He seriously is the most creepiest thing ever. He looks like he has bitter beer face!! And they changed the guy who does his voice! The whole thing was just off to me. I do like his boots though. I will give him that.

Landry loves rides! Kara loves rides! Kara will be the aunt that takes my children on rides. Bobby really hates them and I will only do some many. So luckily I have her to help me someday. Landry knows I hate haunted houses so all day she kept telling me how scary this ride was and how I would NOT have liked going in. Hahahaha

Ok, so let's play Where's Landry? Kind of like Where's Waldo, except with Landry spinning around. I had to have Kara spot her every time and I would just start snapping away. We had a system going, she would say now and I would snap like 10 pics. I believe I had like 50 before I said ok, if I don't have one I am not that great of a photographer!

Hayden had the right idea after it was all said and done. I wish I could have snuggled up to him and got pushed around and slept. But no, 5 miles into The State Fair of Texas and we were done. Plus the crowd was awful and everyone was tired and sweaty.

I just love being with my family and being with The Smith's. Mike and Debbie always make me laugh and I always have a great time. And Landry and Hayden just know the way to my heart!!

It is the season premiere of American Horror Story. Words can not tell you how excited I am about this season. But don't take my word for it, I have inserted a few clips of the upcoming season. If you have not gotten on the AHS train, you need to get on board! Even though it is on season 4, no other seasons are the same. The story line and characters change every year. So you don't need to watch seasons 1, 2 and 3 to watch 4! I would recommend someday watching the other seasons on Netflix because they are AMAZING!

Dirt

Dear Diary,

The past 2 weeks I have done my dear diary session and it feels like all I do is complain. I know this world isn't perfect and I don't expect it to be. So today's diary post is going to be on a different  note. I have recently heard this song called "Dirt" by Georgia Florida Line. At first I didn't really pay attention to the words, I just loved the beat and I love their singing. They are an amazing duo who deserves all the awards they get. So after hearing it a few times, I actually really listened to it. What a song!!! The words hit really close to home. So I thought I would analyze the song, relate it back to my childhood, back to my roots. We get so caught up in today's world that we sometimes forget to look at the small things in life. The little things that keep us going.

"You get your hands in it" 

So I don't like dirt. I don't like playing in it or having it all over my car. I have never been one to get dirty, just for the fun of it. When I played softball, it was a requirement so it didn't bother me then. But it was always something I thought you didn't really need in life. Like why would God make dirt. It stands for no purpose (or so I thought). 

 

"Plant your roots in it"

Flowers, Trees, vegetables, fruits, coffee, etc. All of these things need it. But I don't think that this line means roots as in stems. I think it means roots as in heart. When you think back on all the times you had fun, dirt was always there. Either beneath your feet or laid as the foundation to the place your at.

 



"Dusty head lights dance with your boots in it (dirt)"

When those times you use to sneak off with friends in the woods and the only source of light was the headlights. Turn the music up as loud as you can and get lost with friends. But what you probably don't remember and now you do, is the dirt at your feet. Or when you were driving and it was so smoky but yet you trusted on where you were going.

 

"You write her name on it"

Ok, so who hasn't written their name in dirt before. Or written that special someone's name in it. Maybe on purpose, maybe with a heart around it, or maybe it was your subconscious playing tricks on you. 

 "Spin your tires on it"

Who hasn't raced? Who hasn't felt that 0-60 rush? That moment of no gravity, no barriers, just you, your car and that dirt road. Or those times you tried to show off and it didn't go according to plan....

Bonfires on it (dirt)
You bet your life on it"

Alcohol needs dirt as much as the rest of it. It needs to be able to do what it does in that ugly brown stuff we call dirt. Without dirt, no alcohol. When I was in high school, the Bonfire we used to have was always the best. I've never seen it, but I have been told that the Bonfire at A&M is the best. That is what they look forward to every year. But did you know that dirt will also help put fire out. Hence why they always do a Bonfire over dirt. To help control it.

Talk about hitting close to home. I watched my parents go through ups and downs in life all for the sake of having their children grow up without knowing what hunger feels like or what abandonment feels like. All the trees I would lay under in my front yard dreaming about what I might be some day. Having parents that were able to let me have dreams and never bashing them. Except when I wanted to be a Used Car Salesmen, my mom just laughed and said we will see.

Who doesn't remember after parties after football games? They were always the best. Especially after a win. Even now when I watch football, there is always a party going on. And when it rains and getting caught in it, it's kind of cool. As long as their isn't thunder and lightening cause I hate storms, but rain is beautiful. But mud...reminds me of my white lab after a rain storm and he goes to pee and comes back to the door covered in brown goopy stuff!

Fame isn't for everyone. Living lavish isn't for everyone. Having the best of the best isn't for everyone. But love, family, friends that's for everyone. Building a life with someone, that's for everyone. Even if you don't get married or have kids, there is always someone in your life you can't live without. There is always something that makes you want a white picket fence with. There is always someone or something worth having that small piece of dirt with.

Those lines remind me of my husband. My husband is one of the hardest working people I know. And I use to love watching him play football all those years ago. There was nothing like it. And he is the reason our house looks the way it does. He works really hard on the weekends to keep it mowed, and green and growing. He always comes in covered in sweat and dirt and I couldn't love him more. When driving on the road, I always say a little prayer for every cross I see. Someone has died there and someone is trying to remember it. Trying to hold on to that one little thing, that one small piece of dirt that took their loved ones life. Faith is a powerful reminder about the small things.

Because the end goal for me...is to get to Heaven some day. For my body to be laid to rest in the dirt. The dirt I so thought wasn't important. Dirt that I didn't think had any purpose on this world. Dirt who is ugly when looked at but is the foundation on where I stand. It held my Jesus Christ up on a cross and its the place someday where I will lay my head.

Thank you Florida Georgia Line for reminding me that something so small, something I look over everyday, something that I thought had no importance to me actually is the foundation of my whole life. What an incredible song and an incredible reminder of how God can take something so blah and turn it into something so grand!

 

 

 

Today's post is dedicated to my Maw-Maw. Today would have been her 84th birthday. Everyday I miss her and everyday I think of her and how simple her life was but that was ok. She didn't need a lot. She loved her family and she loved her God and now she is my beautiful butterfly floating freely in Heaven.

 

All About That Pink Party!!

So we all know how much I love the color Pink. I love everything about it. It makes me happy all the time. I constantly surround myself with the color Pink, whether I am at work or at home. Oh and can I just say how excited I am that the Supreme Court doesn't want to hear any more cases on Gay Marriage in the states of Virginia, Oklahoma, Utah, Wisconsin and Indiana! Congrats to those in those states who have waited to get married to the love of their lives and now can. No one should tell you you can or can't do something and who am I to say less love. It's Friday!!!!

You have made it through another work week!
Maybe you have conquered what you had planned to do!
Maybe you told Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to go suck it!
Maybe you don't like Friday's because that means Saturday is around the corner and you must find things to do to keep your kids entertained because they aren't in school!
Maybe you like Friday's because you can leave work in time for happy hour!
Maybe Friday to you is a reminder on how fast your life is flying by!
Maybe Friday is the day you decide you aren't going to do anything because you know Monday will slowly make it's way around again and you can do it then!
Maybe when you get in your car on Friday's, the music tends to be a little happier and a little louder and just maybe, if you're feeling it, the windows will be rolled down!
Wherever Friday takes you, I hope it makes you happy and you can laugh and love and be filled with so much spirit.

 

 

The Flashback Friday I had planned on doing today, I am saving for another day. I just wasn't feeling it today and I have decided to do a few interviews with people on it before I make the post. Thought it would be fun to get other's peoples opinions on the subject matter than just my own.

Tomorrow I am going to the State Fair of Texas so next week I will posting all about the food we eat so if you haven't been yet, you can decide what you want before you go. I am going to do my best to remember where we get each one. Luckily I am going with my family and Tim is amazing at knowing where we are at almost any given time so I will be relying on him to tell him. 

I will also be devoting a day to how to go to the fair and eat Gluten Free. Yes, it is possible! I have my list ready and I will do my best to find the best ones on the list for you! Wish me luck!
