2014 Gluten Free Halloween Candy Guide

Dear Diary,

So Halloween is this Friday and I don't know about you...but I love Halloween. It's the one night that it doesn't matter what you look like or talk like or walk like, everyone is a freak! So many different and cute and clever Halloween costumes people come out with. Bobby and I have gone to a Halloween party for years now. Last year was my favorite costume. Can you tell who I was?

This is actually the first year in years we aren't going to one. I was a little disappointed we didn't have one to go too (I was going to be Maddie from the Sia Chandelier video if we went) but that's ok. It saved me money so I can spend it on candy now. Speaking of candy, did you know that there is a lot of gluten found in certain candy! I was so upset when I realized that last year. But with this being my second Halloween as gluten free, I am much more of a pro, so with that I thought I would share with you the list of all the candies you CAN eat this Halloween.

Keep the outfit simple and the scarf fabulous!!

What is up with the weather? It was 90 degrees on Saturday. What happened to my fall weather? Bobby and I took the whole top off the jeep Saturday morning because we saw no rain in the forecast for at least 10 days but 90 degree weather.....come on fall! Where are you? In hopes of getting my fall weather back, I have found my new favorite scarfs and tights to wear this fall/winter season.

I love scarfs. They make the best accessory and add an extra layer of fun. They come in so many color and designs and fabrics. I am not a fan of thick scarfs that make me feel like I can't move my neck. I like my scarf to be more of an add on than a noose around my neck.

And I love fashion tights. They are incredibly sexy and make your legs look skinny. Plus, they help hold you in when you wear that dress or skirt.

Here are my favorite 6 scarfs and 2 tights and 1 awesome pair of socks to go with boots! Because who doesn't love that look?!

American Flag Print Scarf- Forever 21- $12.80
"And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free..." Who doesn't love an American scarf? It's so beautiful and can be worn all year long. This scarf is made to worn with rolled boyfriend jeans, a white t-shirt, hair in a ponytail with ankle boots.

Cashmere Scarf- H&M- $59.95- burgundy, black and beige
Who doesn't love the feel of cashmere? But who hates paying that cashmere price? ME! I love that H&M has this cashmere scarf at this price. I know that seems high for a scarf (compared to all the others I mention) but I couldn't avoid telling you about it. So soft, so warm, can be dressed up or down. Just be careful when you wash it. Follow the instructions perfectly or you will be giving it to your sweet 5 year old niece because it will fit her small body perfectly!

Feather Print Scarf- Forever 21- $8.80
Gorgeous! When I saw this, I automatically thought of my sister Kara and how perfect this would look on her with her blonde hair. The leaves colors with the blues and oranges and pinks just screams beautiful to me. It looks soft and light and airy. Pair it with a simple outfit so this can be the focal point of your outfit!

Knit Tube Scarf- H&M- $9.95- gray, black, natural white and rusted red
So I know I said I don't like thick scarfs but I love the infinity scarfs they make. They are so simple to do and you never have to worry about if your scarf is even on both sides. You simply just place it over your head and your done. I love this scarf with a cute bun on your head, leather leggings, a long layered shirt, jean jacket and biker boots.

Zebra Print Scarf- Forever 21- $12.80
I love print. Black and white to me is the easiest colors for everyone. Not everyone looks good in pink. Not everyone looks good in blue. BUT everyone looks good in black and white. It is the universal colors that you cant go wrong with. I wear a lot of black. Like 1/3 of my wardrobe is black. But I like to have black because I love my accessories to pop. And with black and white, anyone can add any color to them and they look good. You can even add this scarf to a red top and it would still look good!

Patterned Scarf- H&M- $6.95
See...I love print! And the fact that this scarf is only $7! Perfect accessory to any wardrobe. Just don't pair this scarf with stripes, it will not go together. Keep the outfit simple and the scarf fabulous!

Lace Tights- H&M- $9.95
Lace tights are so hot. And they take any black dress and revamp it. Paired with a short bootie or lace up boot and you are ready to go!

Mini-Check Tights- H&M- $9.95
So if you aren't a fan of the extra lace tight, but want to venture out a little, go with this. It takes the tight to another level but without standing out too much. You can also add this under loose shorts for a whole other look.

Frill Knee High Sock- Cotton On- $9.95- smokey grey and black
I love these! I love the sock and boots look so much. But not only is this just a sock, but it has frill on the top!!!!! I use to be such a tomboy and hated lace and frill but now, I cant seem to get enough of it. I am making up for lost times growing up. You can add this sock over the print tights with a tall boot and either mini skirt and top or dress. And when I say mini skirt, I don't mean where when you walk we can see your lady parts. I mean like right between where the knee and thigh are. Keep it classy!

 Happy Monday everyone!

This Friday is Halloween and if you are like me, you love to dress up. And sometimes your costume requires you to change your hair color. And if you are like me, you hate that spray stuff you buy. It smells awful, it gets everywhere and its really sticky. But I have found a solution for you! Younique's pigments! You simply make a paste from them with water, paint them in your hair and set it with a hot iron. And it simply washes out when you wash your hair. But order today because Halloween is Friday! You can also paint your face with it. No having to add paint to your face that cause pimples and even can cake up on your face! The possibilities are endless!

My Sweet Lou

So I debated all week rather or not to address something that happened in my family last Saturday. I wasn't sure if I should talk about it and if I do, I need to make sure I get the story right. And then I saw my sister's blog and she talked about it so I feel like maybe I should address it too.

This is in the words of my sister Kara from her blog. I just copied and pasted and let her tell it from her point of view. After you read it, I will tell you how I found out and my reaction:

"""So, after the party, we headed to Flower Mound to stay with my parents.  They had a dinner party to go to Saturday night, so Tim and the kids and I ordered dinner in and just vegged out on the couch.  I put Hayden to bed, and Landry kept telling me she was tired, so I put her in on my parent’s bed and put her TV on and left her in there.  My parents came home around 10, and they went into their room to get ready for bed.  My dad said Landry was asleep when they walked in, so he started nudging her to move over so he could lay with her.  It was then, that we got a shock.  Landry started convulsing and shaking and not talking.  My dad screamed for me to come in there and when I turned that corner I was immediately brought back to when she was 13 months old and I got the call from Tim that she was being taken to Children’s hospital.  My dad and Tim got cold rags for her and I called 911.  They came within 3 minutes and at that time; she was still convulsing and not speaking.  They took her temperature and it had gotten up to 103.7!  So, they said they would need to take her by ambulance to the hospital.  They loaded her up on the stretcher and she and I rode in the ambulance while Tim and my dad followed.  I cannot begin to explain what it is like seeing your child on a stretcher in an ambulance.  I tried to stay as calm as I could for Landry’s sake.  She finally came to in the ambulance but was so scared, so I just stayed with her and held her hand the whole ride there.  We got to the hospital and she was admitted into a room where we waited for 2 hours while they gave her fluids and medicine and took some tests.  It was a febrile seizure, which is what I had already known.  Her body just spiked a super high fever really fast and it didn’t handle it well.  I was so glad once they said we could take her home.  She was so brave!  She is so resilient and I’m so glad that all turned out well.  I told her she wasn’t allowed to give mommy a scare like that again."""

So I know none of this. I wake up to a text Sunday morning from my sister saying "Did mom or dad tell you what happened to Lou last night?" (I call Landry, Lou btw) so I tell her no and she proceeds to tell me that same story from her blog in not so many words. You have to understand something, Landry and I have a very special relationship. I love all of my nieces and nephews exactly the same but there's something about Landry that I am just really close too. Could be from all those years I got to keep her and we just formed this bond. So when I found out about this, my heart went into my throat. I didn't know rather to cry or pray or wake Bobby and scare him. I just knew I had to get to her and hold her. And that's what I did. I sent Bobby on to church, I got ready and raced over to see her. I walk in and just grab her. I did my best to not cry. I cry SUPER easy (like I have tears right now writing this post) but I wanted to just let her know I loved her. I'm pretty sure I squeezed her tightly because she started giggling and asking me why I was holding her so tight! I said "Landry, I never want to let you go!" and she just laughed. I ended up staying there all day and having a wonderful time on the patio at my parents house and talking with my mom and sister. And drinking wine of course!

If you don't know what a febrile seizure is, according to http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/febrile_seizures/detail_febrile_seizures.htm, a febrile seizure is convulsions brought on by a fever in infants or small children. During a febrile seizure, a child often loses consciousness and shakes, moving limbs on both sides of the body. Less commonly, the child becomes rigid or has twitches in only a portion of the body, such as an arm or a leg, or on the right or the left side only. Most febrile seizures last a minute or two, although some can be as brief as a few seconds while others last for more than 15 minutes. The majority of children with febrile seizures have rectal temperatures greater than 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Most febrile seizures occur during the first day of a child's fever. Children prone to febrile seizures are not considered to have epilepsy, since epilepsy is characterized by recurrent seizures that are not triggered by fever. Approximately one in every 25 children will have at least one febrile seizure, and more than one-third of these children will have additional febrile seizures before they outgrow the tendency to have them. Febrile seizures usually occur in children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years and are particularly common in toddlers. Children rarely develop their first febrile seizure before the age of 6 months or after 3 years of age. The older a child is when the first febrile seizure occurs, the less likely that child is to have more.

In other words, they are very common. And the child almost always come out of it unharmed. They are just super scary. Kara assumes that if they had not caught it, if she had been at home in her room and no one was there to have checked on her, she would have just come out of it and they would have never known because Landry doesn't remember it. She went to sleep and woke up in an ambulance with no recollection of what just happened.

I just thank God everyday for her and that he did keep her safe in that time and that he did send my dad in there to check on her. God has blessed me so many times over and I just love and thank him for my family, and my Lewis family. He is the reason for everything I have and I love him for giving me her...
my sweet Lou!

Part 2 of our Petting Farm trip

If you know anything about me, or after reading my blog for a while, you know my love for animals. I love all breeds of animals. I am really surprised I am not a vegetarian because of it. I don't eat a lot of meat but there are a few things I can't or won't give up, for either taste purposes or protein purposes. But when I go to a petting farm and I see all of these animals, I tend to eat a lot of veggies and fruits for the next couple of days. And the thing is, bacon is one of my favorite foods. And I really want a pet pig so I am at a crossroad in my life right now. And I know the pig I adopt won't be the kind of pig they kill for me to eat but I would never be able to cook bacon in my house again!

This is when Kent told us it smelled like poop really loud. He got a laugh so he kept telling us how it smelt like poop. Kids!

They have this really cool maze thing that Kristen always goes in with the boys and every year she gets stuck.

 Discussing which pumpkin they want

See how I got one awesome one of Angie, Colton and Matt......now see how many takes it took for Kent Samuel Lewis to smile in just one for me!

Then we decided to go over and have a picnic and let the boys play on the playground. I ate as fast as I could and went over with them. I am not missing out on getting their photos!

 The Lewis family (minus Debbie)
I always get a selfie with Billie Marie. It's our thing!

I always have so much fun going. There were a lot of bees this year which wasn't fun but luckily enough, no one got stung! The boys were great and Billie is perfectly sweet and did I mention how much she LOVES me! We had such a blast.......
Well except when momma pig rolled on top of baby pig and my heart was in my throat and I thought I might have to throw on my Superwomen costume and save the day!

Really cool motion videos! Haha
