True Blood

I am huge TV show watcher. I watch enough TV in one week to power a small village. It's what I love. I love getting lost in them and taking myself to another place for that short time. At one point in my life, I was watching over 55 shows per week. That's an average of 7.85 shows a day. Recently, I have noticed that a lot of the shows I use to watch have either ended or cancelled or I gave up on them. Reason I am telling you this is because of my FAVORITE shows I watch is ending this summer. True Blood!
WARNING: Don't read any farther if you don't want any spoilers on what I am about to say!

So far it has been good. I have no idea where they are going or what they are doing or who's going to die or who's going to hook up or how it's going to end. Usually on most shows, I have a really good feel of how things are going to go. I can see how they will play out. NOT with True Blood. It keeps me on my toes. With that said...Sunday night's episode almost about broke my heart. One of my favorite characters got killed. OMG! And in my opinion, this character is by far the hottest of the bunch. If you don't know by now...his name is Alcide.

Alcide is played by Joe Manganiello and I mean the man is gorgeous. He's like 6'5", all muscle. He plays a werewolf on True Blood. He came on the show in season 3 and the moment I saw him, I prayed he would become a regular and he was. I knew the final year would bring me some heartache, but I dreaded the day they killed him off. And it wasn't like he was defending someone or anything. Some punk ass kid shot him from behind a bush. (can you tell I'm a little pissed). So in honor of Alcide, I have found some photos for me to remember him by! Enjoy!

Oh Joe...you will be missed in last episodes coming up. The show just wont be the same without you! I can only wait for Magic Mike 2 to come out to see you again!

35 years of marriage

So todays blog is dedicated to my parents. Today is their 35th wedding anniversary. Let me tell you a little bit about Danny and Janet Clemens first.
Danny is a one of a kind man. He's kind hearted, loyal, strong, stubborn, smart man. His favorite place to be is with his girls. You ask him...he will tell you. He loves Bobby, Hayden and Tim but there is nothing like his girls.
Janet is the sweetest women in the world. She is so genuinely perfect, kind, loving, brightens any room, never meets a stranger kind of women. Her favorite place to be is with her family. That's all she ever wants in life. Is to be with her family.
Danny and Janet met through a mutual friend that mom was dating. Her boyfriend at the time played baseball with my dad. Danny Charles Clemens was a year older so he went off to college to play baseball. But something drew him back home. Janet Lynn Copeland. After only dating for a year and engaged for months, they got married on July 7th, 1979. (So that makes Danny only 19, and Janet only 18. Their birthdays are after their anniversary date).

For the record, my parents would have killed me if I married at 18! It's funny how times have changed.

I don't really have much to write. I will tell you this though. There is no love like what my parents have. I try everyday for the amount of love they have for one another with Bobby. I have seen so many good times and I have witnessed some bad times. I have been there through no money and when they had money. I've heard plenty of arguments and I learned really fast that no matter what, there is still love. My parents didn't shield Kara and I from a lot. They felt it was important for us to see the ups and downs of life. I am a better women and wife because of it. I believe that they helped shaped me as a wife to Bobby and taught me right and wrong in my marriage. They have been the most perfect example for Kara and I. We both have incredibly strong marriages because of it. They aren't perfect but it's ok. I don't want perfect parents. Danny and Janet Clemens are perfect for each other and that's what matters.

I just want to show you some pictures of them from back then. I am going to try to get them in order of their 35 years together.

What a blessing to Kara and I you both have been

Thank you Dad for showing me what a husband and father are suppose to be like. Thank you for all you have taught me and continue to teach me. You are my hero and I love you so very much. And in the words that I can't sing to you or I will be in tears:
"Daddy's hands were soft and kind when I was crying. Daddy's hands were hard as steel when I'd done wrong. Daddy's hands were always gentle, but I've come to understand. There was always love in Daddy's hands"

Thank you Mom for showing me what a wife and (future) mom are suppose to be. Your kind heart and gentle ways are what I love best about you. I love you. And I know you use to sing this to me but
"You are my sunshine. My only sunshine. You make me happy, when sky's are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away"

I'm getting drunk on a plane

So today's blog is all about what I am drinking now. It's summer time so that means Bobby and I have a party every weekend usually, either at our house or at someone else's house. And if you know anything about me, you know I love to drink. I have no children yet so I am taking advantage of living the free life with my husband before the major responsibility's come into play. So ever since going gluten free, I have had to learn what I can and cannot drink. Bourbon, Scotch, Whiskey and Beer are out of the question. Luckily, I only drank Beer from that group and at first it wasn't that hard. But once summer came and I was in the pool, it's all I wanted!!!!!!!!! I was craving a Modelo Especial or a Pacifico or even a Miller Lite would have worked.

So once I got over the fact that I beer was a no-no, I had to discover other things. I worked for a company called Spec's, where they have the largest beer department in the state of Texas. So while I worked in the wine department, I knew one of my beer guys could hook me up with something I could drink. He recommended me a gluten-free beer. I don't know about you, but they are awful! OMG...I spit it out because it tasted nothing like what I wanted. So I went back to him and asked if there was anything else I could have at the pool. I'm a huge wine lover but sometimes in 100 degree weather, wine just doesn't work. So he told me about this thing called Cider. The first time I heard Cider, I was thinking like Hot Apple Cider. Why would I want hot apple cider by the pool? And he took me over to the Cider section and showed me what he was talking about. Cider is made from apples and fermented at a low temperature. Once pressed, it becomes like apple juice. They take that and mix it with the alcohol like they would in beer. Beer is made from barley and wheat, so that is why people who suffer from a gluten intolerance, can't have it. So I bought one without trying and Holy Mother of Pink...was it amazing! The first one he showed me was by a company called Angry Orchard. And to this day, they are my favorite!

They come in a few different flavors: Traditional Dry, Crisp Apple, Green Apple, & Apple Ginger. Then they have ones that only come out at certain times of the year and they are Cinnful Apple and Elderflower. Cinnful Apple is my all-time flavor. I stock up on it so when it does go out of season, I have enough to last me. It comes out between October-March and then Elderflower is March-October.

Then they also have the Cider house collection which come in big bottles. They have a more aging process. They come in Strawman, Ice Man and The Muse. I have not had these yet. They are hard to find and more expensive.

The only thing I did not like about Angry Orchard, was that is always came in a bottle. And when I am by the pool, I don't want glass around it. I want a can because if you drop a can, it floats, Not breaks and you have glass in your pool! But I guess Angry Orchard heard my cry's and decided that they were going to put out cans. It only comes in 2 flavor but I do not care!!!! I love it. (on a side note, I have only been able to find it in the apple, not the ginger)

There is also another brand I really like, that has a lighter taste and less calories and less sugar. So when I'm by the pool, its Angry. When I just want something at the end of day and I don't want wine, I usually reach for a Crispin.

Crispin has a lot of flavors and they just don't use apple. They have a few pear ones too. Here are the flavors: Original, Brut, Pear, Blackberry Pear. In big bottles they come in: Honey Crisp, The Saint, Bohemian and Lion Belge Pear. They also have a barrel aged called Georgia. It also comes in box wine size. I have not been able to find it but I need to for my vacations!

One more cider I want to mention because when I say the name, your going to think beer. Stella Artois. but Stella is smart, and they have come out with a cider called Stella Cidre.

To me, this taste as close to beer as it can come. It doesn't have a very sweet apple taste to it. It's amazing how well they make this product. This is the one my dad drinks, because he too is Gluten-Free. And I just discovered that they just came out with a pear version. So I will be looking for this next time I go shopping!

So if you are gluten free or even if your not and you are wanting to try something new this summer, try these! You will love them. Besides white wine, these are my go to for almost every occasion. If you live in Dallas or around Dallas, I wanted to mention this new Cider bar that just came up in Bishop Arts area. My sister in law Kristen's cousin owns it. It is called Bishop Cider Co. and they have around 45-50 different ciders available. You can find them on Facebook to see what they actual have.

and don't forget my Younique give-away party is still going on till July 10th. Don't miss out on this opportunity to win something or earn something if you spend over $50 (before tax and shipping). https://www.youniqueproducts.com/DaniLynnLewis/party/304997/view

Let's read together

So one of my best friends, Julie Cordova, is one of the fastest readers I know. She can finish a book in like 2 days. She's an inspiration to me when it comes to reading...and I just happen to absolutely adore her! This is my ride or die chick, Julie!

I have always loved to read. I love picking up a book and just getting lost in it. My husband bought me a kindle but I just can't get into reading books off it. There is something about a hardback in your hands, rested on your lap or table with a cup of coffee or glass of wine at night. (for the record, I do read the Bible on my kindle. I love the Bible on the kindle). I read all kinds of books. I have read all the Twilight's, all the Hunger Games. I read mysteries and science fiction. I read about murders and sex and love. I read the cheesy books and the books that are made for 15 year olds (don't judge. They are good). Right now I am reading the 10th book in a 12 book series called the House of Night. I love books that I can read easily. I don't mind a hard to read book, but it has to be interesting and keep my attention. Like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, that was a hard read but so worth it! Once I got started, I couldn't stop reading them.

So with that said, I am so glad I have Julie because she keeps me on track with my books. I found this website with a whole bunch of must read books. I bought the book Serena for my up-coming Galveston trip. They are making this book into a movie with Jennifer Lawrence as Serena and Bradley Cooper as her husband (can you say...hot hot hot...and amazing chemistry between these two!). The book itself is set in the 1930's North Carolina where Serena and George are married. He runs a timber company. Without giving to much away...something happens to George and Serena must take over the timber company. George has an affair and a love child and drives Serena to major jealously issues because of something Serena cant do. Since I have not read it, I don't know how it ends but I cant wait to find out. It's a story how a women with all odds against her is able to stand up for herself and take over her life.

I have seen it with this cover.

And Amazon sells it with this cover.

I love books about strong women. I don't always agree but I find it to be empowering on a level. After I am done with Serena, I am moving on to the following books: Gone Girl, Dark Places, Sharp Objects, The Picture of Dorian Gray, A Book of Common Prayer, Devil's Knot and Every Secret Thing. This is going to be a lot to get through but I am ready for the challenge. Bring on the summer vacations of sitting on a beach and reading!

A quick note on each of the books I plan on reading (just in case you might be interested):
Gone Girl- going to be a movie with Ben Affleck. It's a story about a wife that suddenly goes missing and everyone blames the husband. He in turn searches for her and finds a mysterious past about her.

Dark Places- about a young girl who witnesses her family's brutal murder and she has to testify in court on who did it. Years later, a secret society has her help them try to disprove the killer she put away. She again finds herself on the run for a killer.

Sharp Objects- about a girl who gets out of a psych hospital and is reunited with her family she barely knows. She is put on investigation of 2 young girl's murders and she must face her own demons she deals with.

(on a side note... Gone Girl, Dark Places and Sharp Objects are all written by Gillian Flynn)

The Picture of Dorian Grey- this was written by Oscar Wilde. It's a story about a young man who wants to be perfect. A friend of his draws a painting of Dorian and Dorian in return makes a wish that instead of him growing old and hurting, his picture does. All I can say is...be careful what you wish for! This book has been turned into a movie a long time ago but I am dying to read this!

A Book of Common Prayer- this was written by Joan Didion. It's a story about 2 different women who live on opposite sides of the track and how they each figure out other people based on the lives they lead.

Devil's Knot- written by Mara Leveritt. This is based on a true story about the West Memphis Three. This is a movie with Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth that was made back in March 2014. The story follows 3 boys who supposedly killed 8 year old boys. Its about their trial and their convictions and how they made it out of jail.

Every Secret Thing- written by Laura Lippman. This book was made into a movie and was released in April 2014 with Dakota Fanning, Diane Lane, Elizabeth Banks and Danielle McDonald. It's about two 11 year old girls who come across an unattended baby in a stroller. The baby dies and both girls go to jail. Years later they are released but the town wants nothing to do with them. The mystery involves which one did it and which was duped and how two 11 year olds could be so different.

I would love for each and every one of you to read along with me. So go buy the book Serena and lets read it together! Once I am done reading it, I will write a review on it and I will have spoilers. If you are anything like me, you read the back to the book first. I know I know that's awful but I read the last chapter and then start at the beginning. I'm weird like that!
